Chief Ryan is currently the Immediate Past President of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police and a Past President of the Central New York Association of Chiefs of Police.

She was assigned to a submarine base in Georgia as a Police K-9 Handler responsible for maintaining security of the base and general law enforcement. Paula was assigned to a patrol/explosive detector dog and she was sent on various assignments with the Secret Service to perform explosive searches.
