I’m excited for the opportunity afforded me to lead this vibrant, evolving organization into the New Year. New York Women in Law Enforcement (NYWLE) was established in 2009 by a Board of Directors of 14 and has grown to nearly 300 members. Sincerest thanks to our first President Deb Campbell for her vision and fortitude in ensuring a strong foundation and forum for female professionals from around this state. She and her Executive Board - Anne, Cindy and Paula - have served us exceptionally well for the past two years, as did outgoing Board of Directors members - Robin, Patricia, Lois, Melissa and Eileen. Welcome to newest Board members Donna, Casey and Danielle who continue their efforts to advance our mission. I look forward to working with my (and your) new Executive Board - Vice President Margaret, Treasurer Julie and second-term Secretary Paula - each with smart sense, an earnest will, and impressive resume which I invite you to read on-line. Together we are committed to propelling this organization onward with the energy, enthusiasm and experience of our membership. The momentum from our Second Annual Conference last month at West Point has generated tremendous interest and fresh ideas. Kudos to Anne and Cathy for successfully orchestrating an extraordinary event complete with reputable presenters, quality training, an enhanced clothing drive, and spirited entertainment. Happy 93rd Birthday to Chief Gertrude Schimmel who provided an insightful, inspirational keynote address based on her historical 40-year career with the NYPD. Pictures of her birthday celebration will be on display in our website photo gallery with the corresponding Daily News article. Our first scheduled outing for 2012 will be at the Westchester Broadway Dinner Theatre with the Opening Night performance of Big River on Thursday, February 2nd (see sidebar). Continue to check our website for future gatherings. Your feedback and input is key to our participatory partnership. In fact, the dinner theater venue was suggested during a regional meeting at the conference close. I encourage you to be involved and assist me in promoting NYWLE as an active, interactive, and inclusive organization. Through continuing outreach, networking and mentoring, we can create opportunities for professional, social and personal development of our dynamic membership. My best to you and your families this holiday season. Assistant Chief Diana L. Pizzuti |
